What is Saving Sloths Together?
The Saving Sloths Together (SST) rescue program is a joint effort between The Sloth Institute (TSI) and Toucan Rescue Ranch (TRR). The program launched in 2017 when the two organizations realized they needed each other in order to provide full circle care to rescued sloths.
How did TRR and TSI discover they needed each other?
Initially started as a toucan and bird rescue in 2004, TRR expanded its rescue program and today they rescue a variety of wildlife in Costa Rica. Before the SST program, TSI was in need of a rescue partner in order to legally rescue, rehabilitate and release sloths in Manuel Antonio, our region of Costa Rica. TRR utilizes TSI’s research and specialized rehabilitation to teach hand-raised baby sloths how to survive in the wild when they reached juvenile age.
TRR also has a sloth release site in the Carribean side of Costa Rica, in a region called Sarapiqui. Having access to this region allowes TSI to expand our research by studying a different geographic location where sloths live.
Because of the SST partnership, rescued sloths now have access to care from both TRR and TSI, which means more sloths are successfully being returned to the wild where they belong.

How can I help?
The SST program needs donations to support the wide range of care needed by the rescued sloths.
Here are some of the things you provide when you donate:
$750 covers critical care for a seriously injured sloth
$500 provides a month’s worth of food
$300 covers cost to construct a sloth speedway for safer travels in deforested areas
$150 buys medications and medical supplies for a month
$75 contributes to sloth enrichment while in treatment
$50 helps expenses for laundry or new sloth bedding and rugs
$25 helps with transportation of a sloth between TRR and TSI
