The Sloth Institute’s Elementary School Sloth Challenge
With inspiration from Ms. Yang’s first grade class at West Point Elementary, and in honor of Sloth International Day, The Sloth Institute (TSI) held it’s first Sloth Challenge this past October to help teach elementary school children about the importance of rainforest conservation and the anti-pet trade.
The challenge encourages teachers and their students to submit an anti-pet trade slogan to help bring awareness about the importance of keeping sloths in their natural habitats. TSI provides interesting and fun content to help communicate the importance of conservation, proper wildlife tourism and why the pet trade is so detrimental. The class with the best slogan participated in a 20-minute Skype session with Sam Trull and an orphaned baby sloth that is being prepared for release.
With the help of this challenge we hope to inspire and educate more of our youth.
Congratulations to Ms Bennett’s 1st grade class from Surprise, Arizona who won the 2015 challenge with their entry of “Step Aside, Let Sloths Reside”.
Stay tuned for more information on our 2016 #elementaryslothchallenge which will be kicked off late September.
